My Favorite Links And other odds and ends |
| Favorite Other Stuff: | ||
| Television My favorite TV show is Doctor Who. The BBC sci-fi program about a time traveler originally ran from 1963 to 1989. It was successfully re-launched in 2005 and is currently running on the sci-fi channel. (Yes, I'm also a Trekkie). |

| Books Ray Kurzweil writes books about the blending of software with the human brain. Fascinating. I also like to study the differences between humans and other animals as explored by Elaine Morgan, Jared Diamond and Temple Grandin. I also enjoy exploring the space/time continuum topic in books like The Fabric of the Cosmos by Brian Greene and Flatland by Edwin A. Abbott (written in 1884). My favorite fiction books are mysteries. Favorite fictional character: Lord Peter Wimsey. Novels need to be, well, novel to hold my interest. I really liked Cloud Atlas by David Mitchell. |

| Movies Harold and Maude (1971) is a black comedy and a cult favorite. Definitely not for everyone. Inexplicably (even to me), it's still my favorite movie after all these years. |
||
| Music I'm a former piano teacher and a baby boomer who was born and raised in Texas. Consequently, I listen to classical, rock and country music. Favorite CD's include Lonestar's Lonely Grill, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, anything by Alan Jackson or Toby Keith, and the soundtracks from Grosse Pointe Blank, Michael, and Henry V. |
||
| Artists My favorite artist is the quintessential found-object sculptor (and native Texan) Robert Rauschenberg. His fearless exploration of mediums and subjects resulted in a breath-taking body of fine art. I was fortunate enough to see a retrospective of his work that filled three museums in Houston. My favorite painter is John Singer Sargent. |

Teacher My favorite teacher was my junior high math teacher, Mr. Charles Seabolt, in Odessa, Texas. He paid for our textbooks out of his own pocket so that we could have the latest information. He also taught us that discipline and imagination benefit each other. |
